I'm a builder. I grew up building with wood and steel, but my profession is working with people and technology to develop outcomes that satisfy not just value stream objectives, but ensure that the entire SDLC & ALM are positive and sustainable at every stage. The most succinct sentence I've refined over my time as Dev*Ops to describe what I do is:

  • "Optimize the ALM & SDLC to maximize value stream potential."

This very specifically demarks at the product-marketplace interface, as this is the responsibility of Product Owners -- though I do go to great lengths to help ensure that they're successful. It doesn't matter if I have the best infra or SDLC if the product is garbage, after all. The reverse is also true.

I most commonly author:

  • Web/Network operational utilities written in BASH/Golang
  • Platform automation kit (AWS/K8s)
  • Security tools
  • Edge/delivery tools & knowledge

As well as any of my philosophies/mental meanderings, such as:

  • DevOps, SRE, Platform Engineering, and the future
  • Value stream maximization, beginning with enabling the individual contributor's success
  • Talent attraction, retention, and daily engagement during this time of great competition
