2.5.0 External Libraries - Face Scan and other ML

Building up a immich again with the support of Nikon NEF Compress now, and had issues with the install on unRAID 7 with a compose file.

With help and hinderance from Gemini and Claud, I have the 112K photos on my NAS as an External Library with thumbnails, but had issues with the Face Rec. A lot of it was install permissions that I worked through, currently

• If I add new photos via the GUI there is an automatic Face Req done
• It would not scan the External Libraries
• Claud wrote a script to use the API to trigger the scans in batches, and that is working

Question:
Should immich automatically scan the external library and scan for new photos, or is the API script needed?

External libraries are scanned nightly for new assets, you can adjust this in https://my.immich.app/admin/system-settings?isOpen=external-library+library-scanning

Thank You - should Face Rec also be done?

The scan adds new assets and performs all the usual tasks on them so there should be no need for separate triggers.
